Planets, as previously explained in earlier blogs, gives results based on their placement against the Zodiac sign, the Nakshatra and the house they occupy. Each house in a birth chart has a significance. We have given a broad classification of the same in the table below.

Each Zodiac sign has its own characteristics too and a planet can be in a state of exaltation or debilitation or be placed under a friendly sign or an enemy sign. Planet’s result will depend a lot on it placement under a Zodiac sign. Below table contains the classification of each Zodiac sign based on the Five Elements of Nature (Pancha Tattva), their ruling planet, planets which are exalted under their influence and planets that are debilitated in their influence.

 Zodiac Sign Signification

exaltation and debilitation of planets

Using above tables and explanations given earlier we will try to understand the birth chart given below. Symbol As in the chart below is the first house and it is refferred as the Ascendant or Lagna. Apart from symbol As, first house has Ju and no. 4 symbols too. Ju stands for Jupiter and no. 4 is the 4th Zodiac sign i.e. Cancer. You can refer to the sequence of Zodiac signs from above table. Cancer comes at fourth place as per the table above. So basically we can say that this person has Cancer Ascendant with Jupiter placed under it. According to the table above, Jupiter is exalted under the sign of Cancer and in the chart below Jupiter is present in the sign of Cancer hence Jupiter is exalted. First house represents self as mentioned in the house significance table above and planet Jupiter being significator of wisdom and being exalted represents that the person will be wise and religious. Moving further in the counter clockwise direction the house with symbols Ma and no. 5 is the second house. Ma stands for Mars and no. 5 represents Leo. We can say that the second house is ruled by Leo and is occupied by Mars. Similarly we can read other houses too.
