Can Astrology Change the Destiny?

The above mentioned verse is from Chapter 2 – Verse 47 of Bhagvad Gita. The meaning of this verse is often misinterpreted as Lord Krishna telling Arjun “You have to keep doing actions (Karma) and do not worry about results”. The correct interpretation of this verse is “It is your right to perform actions but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions”, in other words you can wish for fruits of your action but you cannot claim the fruits. Fruits of your action are solely the god’s will.

We will answer two questions before we answer the title question “Can astrology change the destiny”?

Que. What is destiny?

Ans. In simple words destiny means the status of an event or a person at a given point in time and this time reference is usually a time of future.

Que. What does astrology do?

Ans. Astrology helps in forecasting the nature of the events which are yet to happen. It is really important to understand that astrology helps in forecasting the nature of the events and it really does not forecast the actual event. For example, if Saturn is currently transiting the house of Moon in the birth chart then the native is said to be going through Sade Sati (7.5 years of Saturn). Moon as per astrology signifies mother, sub-conscious mind, intuitive mind or compassion. Moon and Saturn share a hostile relation as per the astrology. Astrologers may interpret this period differently, some may say your mother must be having troubles, some may say you are going through a depressive time, others may say you do not get pleasing sleep these days and so on. These are mere interpretations of a simple point that your mind can be troubled during this period. The reason for the trouble could be mother, or lack of sleep or depression or anything else. This trouble in the mind could lead to a number of other troubles like poor performance at work due to lack of concentration and getting fired eventually. Astrology may help in discovering the root cause of the destiny and in reality it does not reveal the actual destiny.

Que. Can Astrology Change the Destiny?

We saw, astrology can help us in uncovering the subtle causes behind certain events happening in our life. Once we figured out the causes of the event, we can take corrective action (Karma) and get positive results out of it. Like in the example of “Sade Sati” mentioned earlier, all that the astrologer was trying to tell essentially was, “your mind is troubled and you need to calm your mind”. Certain remedies prescribed by the astrologer can prove helpful in overcoming this period bravely and certainly a good destiny could be written.

Coming back to the opening verse of the post where we explained it is our right to perform actions and we are not entitled to claim the fruits of our action. The fruits will be given by god alone. All that an astrologer can help you with a remedy is to do right Karma and create a possibility of desired result but even an astrologer cannot guarantee the destiny.
