Blue Sapphire or Neelam stone (in hindi) is a precious gemstone which according to astrology is ruled by planet Saturn (Shani). Blue Sapphire bear qualities of its ruling planet Saturn. Saturn is a big planet which revolves around the Sun at a very slow speed. Saturn is often referred as the Judge according to the Vedic astrology. People often get scared by the slightest mention of Saturn to them though in reality Saturn teaches lessons of life through giving fruits of past Karmas. Blue Sapphire is largely found in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Australia, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Kenya, and Tanzania. though Madagascar is the leading producer of this stone but Sri Lankan Blue Sapphires are best in quality. Kashmir used to produce some of the finest Blue Sapphires long back but these days mining has practically ceased and it is very rare to find an original Blue Sapphire from Kashmir.
Most of the astrologers consider Blue Sapphire as a very potent gemstone as it is believed that this gemstone gives faster result than any other gemstone. This gemstone should be worn under strict guidance of an expert as incorrectly worn gemstone may lead to a lot of damage. Blue Sapphire can be set in a Silver or a Gold or Panchdhatu ring (as prescribed by expert) and it is worn on the middle finger. Ideal day to wear this gemstone is Saturday and it is usually advised to be worn in the evening. Blue Sapphire is usually not advised to be worn along with Pearl, Ruby and Coral. Diamond and Emerald are friendly gemstones with Blue Sapphire.
